Welcome back, winter veggie lovers! We're excited to kick off another season of local goodness. Our Winter CSA runs from November through April, with deliveries/pickups roughly once or twice a month, depending on your share.
What to Expect
You can customize your share, or if you don't customize, you automatically receive the Farmer's Choice each week.
Farmer's Choice Shares typically include a mix of storage crops—things like carrots, potatoes, onions, and squash—along with fresh greens when available.
During the deep winter months of January and February, the share may consist solely of root vegetables and value-added goodies. Eggs should be available throughout the season, both as a share and as an add-on each week when you need them.
Many of our storage crops are a finite supply, though. Everything has been harvested, and when it's out, it's out.
If you can't pick up your share:
You can:
Have a friend pick up for you.
Switch to another pick-up day in Farmigo. You have to do this before you customize your share, though.
Hold your share in Farmigo and choose a different date to pick up the makeup. This can all be done online, or you can email us for help.
Donate your share for that week by going into the store and hitting "Donate Your Share."
Around the Farm
It's officially November! The leaves are changing and falling quickly, and the crops are mostly put to bed. We have a few more things to plant before the cold weather truly sets in, but nothing that our stellar crew cannot handle.
The last few weeks brought a mix of excitement and chaos as we accepted delivery of a new 40-foot storage container (promptly named Carl).
The inside of a clean Carl, freshly put in our driveway.
Carl’s already getting a makeover, complete with newly installed air conditioners, and he’s quickly becoming part of our extended infrastructure family. Meanwhile, we’ve started the slow process of shifting supplies and equipment into other buildings in preparation for demolishing the old one.
Carl loaded to the brim with root veggies.
Honestly, it’s less of a “move” and more of a strategic game of Tetris — tucking crates of veggies into every odd corner we can find to avoid having to move them twice. With a new loading dock likely finished by tomorrow, we’re feeling hopeful that all this juggling will pay off soon.
As the summer season winds down, the farm itself seems to exhale — and so do we. With a smaller crew now and shorter workdays, the pace has eased into something that finally feels sustainable. The days are quieter, the to-do lists a little shorter, and there’s more time to catch our breath and take stock of everything we’ve accomplished this year. It’s a welcome change of rhythm — a slower, steadier kind of busy that helps us recharge before diving into the next round of projects and planning.

Veggie of the Week: Kohlrabi
Kohlrabi is probably one of the oddest-looking veggies we grow. 'Kossak' kohlrabi is a special storage variety bred to stay crisp and juicy all winter long. Unlike smaller spring types, Kossak can grow up to 8 inches across and remain tender.
Its mild, sweet flavor is a mix of broccoli stems and a crisp apple, making it incredibly versatile — it’s delicious raw, roasted, or shaved into slaws.
To prepare, peel off the thick outer skin until you reach the pale, juicy interior, then slice, cube, or shred as needed. Store whole bulbs in the fridge or a root cellar for months; once cut, keep them in a sealed container for up to a week.
Recipe Ideas:
Kohlrabi & Carrot Slaw
A fresh, crunchy slaw that’s bright and full of flavor — perfect for tacos, sandwiches, or winter salads.
When in doubt, make a veggie pancake. Golden and crisp on the outside, tender on the inside — these fritters are a fun way to use up extra kohlrabi. Great with a dip.
A beautiful Brussels sprout just waiting to be picked! Yours will be off the stalk, since we could never figure out how to fit this ginormous stalk in the box :)
