Winter CSA: Final Week!

The Final Week!

Hi Reader,

This is our final week of Winter CSA! Thank you for going on this journey with us!

With warm (and rainy) weather settling in, the farm has shifted quickly into spring mode. Planting is happening at lightning speed, and we're spending hours in and around tractors nowadays. As such, we may not be able to respond to last-minute requests or last-minute schedule shifts.

Please take a moment to check your calendar and Farmigo account to confirm you're picking up when and where you'd like for the final week, as there are no other opportunities for make-up shares.

Important Dates to Note:

First Outdoor Meridian Township Farmers Market*: May 2

*Note: this Saturday is the last market until May.

Next Time Back at Allen Market: July 1

First Spring CSA: May 15-16

First Summer CSA: July 6-11

Spring and Summer CSA Update

We have about 30 spots open for Summer! Spring is full (thank you!!!).

Around the Farm

This week's forecast makes spring feel real! Warm, rainy, and windy. It’s also the time of year when we’re working to get fields set up and crops planted as conditions allow.

For my gardeners out there, don't panic - it's not the right time to plant most things, but it is the right time to start putting in those spring brassicas, certain herbs, certain lettuces, potatoes, peas, radishes, etc. It’s also a great time to work on soil amendments, bed planning, or early tillage.

Having 25+ acres to plant means we sometimes take a few more calculated risks than a home gardener might, simply to stay on schedule. We also use hoophouses and black plastic mulch to get an earlier start by warming the soil, which gives us a bit of a buffer against dips in temperature, too.

The rain and potentially wet conditions make timing a bit more complicated, so we’re working around the weather and tilling and planting when we can, and adjusting as needed.

At the same time, we’re continuing to seed warm-weather crops in the greenhouse, getting them ready for planting after the final frost, probably (hopefully) in mid/late May.

Spring is one of those seasons where everything overlaps: fieldwork, greenhouse work, and bigger projects all happening at once.

Have a wonderful spring if we don't see you!
