Hi Reader,
Welcome to Winter & Holiday CSA!
Our first CSA pickups are this week! Whether you're joining us for the first time or have been eating with us for years, we're glad to have you along for another season.
A quick reminder about pickup schedules: November 4–7 is for our twice-monthly members only. If you signed up for monthly pickups, your first share will be November 18–21.
We're sending this newsletter to everyone to help introduce the season!
CSA this time of year looks a little different from summer CSA, but not by much. We'll be drawing from the crops we've harvested and stored this fall, along with fresh greens until the temperatures and daylight make it hard. There's still plenty of variety to enjoy, even as the growing season slows down!
Around the Farm
Each week, we like to share a little glimpse of what's happening behind the scenes at Titus Farms. Sometimes it's an update on what we're planting or harvesting, sometimes it's about the weather, and sometimes it's just a look at the day-to-day adventures (and occasional mishaps!) of running a vegetable farm that also happens to be a family business :)
Harvest, organize, harvest, organize... clean, clean, clean. That's the rhythm of the season! We posted this image of rutabagas on social media, and apparently that's the only shot we've taken of this year's momentous harvest (this is just a small part of it, so, doh!).
Right now, we're deep into winter harvesting and maintenance. We're finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel, though! We'll have more updates to share as the winter goes on!
Each week, this section of the newsletter will show what we're harvesting, what's coming out of storage, and what you can expect to see in the CSA store.
Many of our winter vegetables have been fully harvested over the past few weeks to avoid freezing temperatures, so we have a finite supply. Once they're gone, they're gone! We'll continue offering fresh greens and other seasonal vegetables as weather and availability allow.
Winter/Holiday Veggie Shares: 40 credits per pickup.
Remember, every week on the farm is a little different! We do our best to estimate availability in advance, but weather, crop conditions, and Mother Nature always have the final say.
For this week:
Apples, Pink Lady: From C & S Family Farms in Williamston. Crisp, sweet, and slow to brown when sliced!
Arugula: From Green Wagon Farm and Monroe Family Organics. Freshly harvested and lightly peppery.
Brussels Sprouts: Small to medium sprouts, already removed from the stalk.
Carrots, Orange: Freshly harvested from our farm! Sweet and wonderful.
Celeriac: Aka celery root. Ours are fairly small this year, so expect 1–3 roots per share. Peel and use raw or cooked.
Daikon Radishes: Beautiful purple, white, and green varieties! Crisp and mildly spicy.
Fennel: An anise-flavored veggie that's great raw or roasted. One large or two smaller bulbs with tops.
Garlic
Herbs: Cilantro and flat-leaf parsley, both from Green Wagon Farm and Monroe Family Organics.
Kale, Green Curly: Getting sweeter with the cooler temperatures.
Kossak Kohlrabi: Huge! But still sweet, tender, and reminiscent of broccoli stems.
Leeks: Sooooo many leeks. Wonderful in soups, potato dishes, and just about anything else.
Lettuce Mix: From Green Wagon Farm and Monroe Family Organics. A lovely mix of fresh lettuce, nothing too bitter or unusual.
Onions:
Red: sweet and mild.
Yellow: our storage onions, with a stronger flavor that's great for cooking.
Potatoes: A mix of varieties and colors, depending on availability.
Rutabaga: One of our winter favorites! Great mashed, roasted, or tossed into a stew.
Spinach: From Monroe Family Organics or Green Wagon Farm. Tender leaves that are excellent raw or cooked.
Sweet Peppers, Bell Mix: Mostly green peppers with a few ripe ones mixed in. These are only available for our first pickup!
Sweet Potatoes, Orange: Our harvest was fantastic this year! About 2 pounds per share.
Winter Squash:
Butternut: The classic squash for soup, with a smooth texture and endless possibilities.
Honeynut: Small but incredibly sweet! One of our favorites.
CSA Store Extras
Fresh Eggs!
Homemade Jam: Blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry.
A Couple of Other Options
More Packaging Please: Select this if you'd prefer additional bags or containers separating items in your box. *Note: these bags are often reused but clean

About Customizing Your Share
One of the best parts of our CSA is that you get to choose what works best for your household!
Each Winter Veggie Share includes 40 credits to spend on the vegetables available that week. You can mix and match items however you'd like, whether that means trying something new or stocking up on your favorites.
Don't feel like customizing? No problem! We'll put together a seasonal assortment for you. You'll still get your veggies without having to do a thing.
Customization Hours:
Wednesday pickups: Sunday at noon through Monday at 8:00 PM.
Our goal is always to have the store updated by Noon. Sometimes, we don't hear from suppliers and cannot open it until later in the day. The store will always be 99% accurate by the time you see this newsletter, though.
Friday & Saturday pickups: Wednesday at midnight through Thursday at 8:00 PM.
Log in to your Farmigo account to make your selections. Be sure to save your changes/checkout and watch for a confirmation email. If you don't receive one, your changes may not have saved and gone through!

Pic of the Week
We covered these sunflowers on cold nights, and they have been loaded with honeybees and all forms of insects. It seems this is the only food source in town right now.
